JIGS OVERVIEW
Jigs for use in blue water are in two primary categories. The first is a class whose purpose is to make a slow, fluttering route downward, mimicking a wounded or dead bait fish. Most of these are of the smaller jigs with a wider cross section.
The second is the bottom jig or long jig, which is meant to take a high speed fall to depth and is either used to take bottom dwellers, or is retrieved at break neck speed from some point below suspended fish. Most of these are the larger variety.
The former are center weighted, and the latter, end weighted.
Jigs are labeled as the number of grams (28 per ounce). They are likely labeled as center-weighted or end-weighted.
The quality levels of jigs in the marketplace is very wide. Quality can be found by carefully looking at fit and finish and knowing what ties both ends of the jig together!
With speed jigging so new to the U.S. I will suggest that those even happy with their catches on small jigs will not know what is possible until they try long jigs deep!
ZEST JIGS
ZEST of Japan makes a wide offering of jigs, most with multiple weights and multiple color patterns. ZEST jigs are well known and respected by the rest of the jigging world and have been tested by critters more radical than those found in U.S. waters.
